Goodness and Peace
Teach goodness and peace will follow. Choose peace. Both sound wonderful on paper. However, the map is not the territory. Theories are not reality. Referring back to Governor Leavitt’s panel discussion on the future, that took place in 1997 at the World Trade Center overlooking the Statue of Liberty. Four years later, the World Trade Center was destroyed by male suicide pilots. The attack was addressed “Return to Sender”, “We suffer…you suffer”. Millions, billions, and trillions later the US. is still airmailing bombs labeled, “Return to Sender”. How can we ever have peace with so much violence labeled, “Return to Sender”? War, is the gift that keeps giving. We are making enemies faster than we can kill them. “Return to Sender,” is Manifest Destiny in reverse. “The Ugly American Beheaded in the Desert”, showing starting Christmas day at a theater near you, is reality.
If talking about peace produced peace, peace would of happened a long time ago. Israel talks peace to avoid peace, in reality, they “mow the grass” every couple years inching their way across land they want. The military bulldozer is a weapon of mass destruction. There have been over 500 Nobel Peace winners, the United Nations peace congress, and, as Alfred had described and hoped for, the weapon so powerful, it would end all wars, the nuclear bomb; still no peace. Men are still killing and raping. Women still do not know peace from male violence. Ask Lyn Lusi about surgically repairing women leaking urine and feces from their rape injuries. “The darkness,” she would say, “was man’s heart.” The same darkness was in the man who shot Malala in the face for going to school. The same darkness was in Adam Lanza who shot and killed 20 children at school. The same darkness was in Anders Breivik who shot and killed 92 at a youth camp. The same darkness was in Charles Roberts who killed five Amish girls at school after running out of time to rape them. The same darkness was in Boko Haram who kidnapped over 200 schoolgirls and said, “We will sell these girls. There is a market for these girls.” The same darkness in the men who buy and sell sex slaves creating the “market for these girls. The same darkness was in Dick Cheney’s mechanical heart when he yells: “Torture the bastards, it works!” The history of man’s heart is darkness.
This one percent of men with darkness in their hearts, who are responsible for so much killing, rape, and destruction, are not the enemy. They are not different than us. They are us. They are our grandfathers, fathers, brothers, sons, and husbands. Male bad behavior is learned. We teach men to turn out the light; toughness makes the man. We reward violence; violence pays a living wage.
Socialization is the removal of choices. Peace will come when we as a group remove violence as a choice. Peace will come when we bring light to the darkness. Peace will come when we teach that last one percent of males to “share and care”. It shouldn’t be that hard. Women have been sharing and caring since the beginning of time. They call it, “Egg Investment”. Time to teach men to quit trying to control the womb and instead, be productive, like the womb. Teach the Economics of Goodness: Good behavior produces productivity; bad behavior consumes productivity.
